Snacks and Synods

Passion fruit Fanta with real sugar.  Fresh mango juice.  Juicy papaya slices and kisukari (miniature bananas).  So far Arusha has treated us to mouthwatering delights, but that’s not all our day held.  We walked into town to exchange currency and picked up hymnals for the chapel at Iambi hospital, a long-held goal for our veteran travelers, namely Sue Jenkins.   We also met with the Coordinator of Companion Synods for the ELCA and ELCT.  With traditional Tanzanian hospitality, she invited us into her office as we discussed what the church was doing, both here and in the U.S.A.  We are about to head back downtown to have lunch at a local café, and then we are off to the market to pick up supplies for Nkungi and Iambi.  We have already learned the art of bargaining and expect to do more this afternoon!  A banana milkshake is calling my name, so best wishes to all in the states—we feel you here with us!
